To
achieve this you need to put in some work with your dog from
an early age. A lot of people wait until their dog develops
a problem before they attend training classes. It is also
important that you understand your puppy. Find out your dogs
breed characteristics, what your dog was bred for and how
this affects your puppy and any training with him.

For
instance terriers may dig; working breeds may guard and herd
etc.
At
seven weeks of age the puppy has the brain waves of an adult
dog but his capacity for concentration is not yet very long.
Short training periods can be introduced from that age. These
should be fun, rewarding and encouraging. The puppy should
be socialized with as many different people, adults and children,
dogs and other animals as possible.
They should also be given the experience of at least one new
situation each day.
In
our puppy socialization classes we aim to help you train your
puppy at club and will give you advice on what to do at home.
Puppies
are accepted for training from 12 weeks or earlier by arrangement.
Your
puppy will meet other dogs, people, and other animals and
get acquainted to different situations.
We
will help you teach your puppy to:
Play
- Sit – Lie down –Wait – Come to
you when called – Leave things when
asked –Walk on the lead without pulling
on either side of you.
We
will teach you:
How
and when to praise and reward your puppy – what is acceptable
behaviour - and most importantly how to develop the will to
please in your puppy, so you can go away with a confident,
socialized dog ready for more training!
